IPL Dry Eye Treatment in West Hollywood
Advanced, Non-Invasive Relief for Chronic Dry Eye
Dry Eye isn’t a drops problem —
it's a gland problem.
If you've been managing dry eyes with drops for months — or years — and getting nowhere, the problem isn't your drops. Dry, irritated eyes are often a sign of underlying inflammation and gland dysfunction that eye drops alone can’t fix.
At CLARITY, we offer IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) dry eye therapy, a clinically advanced treatment designed to restore tear balance, reduce inflammation, and improve long-term eye comfort.
What is IPL for Dry Eye?
THE TREATMENT
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy uses targeted pulses of broad-spectrum light applied around the periocular region to treat the root cause of chronic dry eye: inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Your meibomian glands line your upper and lower eyelids and secrete the oils that prevent your tears from evaporating. When they become blocked or inflamed, tears evaporate faster than they're produced — and your eyes stay dry no matter how many drops you use.
IPL interrupts that cycle by:
Reducing chronic inflammation around the eyelids
Targeting the abnormal blood vessels that fuel the inflammatory response
Warming and softening blocked meibomian gland secretions
Reducing Demodex mite populations, a common driver of lid inflammation

Every IPL series at CLARITY begins with a comprehensive dry eye evaluation including meibography to image your glands directly. We confirm the diagnosis first, then we create a customized treatment plan.

4 treatments · $400 per session
The recommended protocol for lasting dry eye relief. Sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart, followed by meibomian gland expression for maximum efficacy. Most patients notice meaningful improvement after the second or third session.
IPL + RF Combination Therapy
$2800
4 sessions · Most comprehensive
IPL addresses inflammation. RF restores oil gland function. Together, they treat dry eye from every angle. This combination is also suitable for patients who want therapeutic results alongside aesthetic improvement of the periocular skin. The most complete dry eye treatment we offer.
Important: IPL is not for every skin tone.
Most practices won't tell you this upfront. We will.
IPL is contraindicated for patients with deeper skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types V–VI). Because IPL energy targets melanin, it carries a real risk of hyperpigmentation, burns, and pigmentation changes in patients with more melanin in their skin. If you have medium-to-deep brown or Black skin, IPL may not be safe for you — regardless of how it's marketed elsewhere.
We have an answer for that.
Dr. Richardson's proprietary Blink Optimization Therapy protocol delivers the same clinical outcomes — meibomian gland restoration, reduced inflammation, lasting dry eye relief — using radiofrequency (RF) energy instead of light. No skin tone contraindication. No compromise on results.
Everything you want to know.

OptiLIGHT is a light-based treatment that uses precise, intense broad spectrum light to address signs of dry eye disease due to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). The IPL treatment addresses inflammation, which is one of the key underlying factors in MGD. OptiLIGHT was specifically developed to reach the delicate contours of the treated area safely, effectively, and gently using the OPT™ technology. It is intended for use in patients who are at least 22 years old, together with other available treatments, such as Meibomian gland expression, artificial tear lubricants, and warm compresses

Most patients describe a warm snap — similar to a rubber band. Discomfort is minimal and brief. No anesthesia required.
Treatment protocol typically consists of 4 sessions, at 2 to 4 weeks apart:
During treatment, your practitioner will cover your eyes with shields and apply a thin layer of coupling gel on the treatment area.
During treatment, light is applied on the skin below the eyes, most patients report minimal discomfort.
OptiLIGHT is followed by meibomian gland expression.
Each session takes only 10-15 minutes. There is no downtime, you can resume your daily activities immediately.
-
Patients typically report improvement after 2 to 3 treatments. For optimal results, 4 sessions are advised. To ensure long-term results, a maintenance session is recommended every 6-12 months.

Yes. Periocular IPL reduces redness, broken capillaries, and sun damage around the eyes — a cosmetic benefit alongside the therapeutic one.
-
The periocular area is anatomically distinct from the rest of the face. An optometrist with periocular aesthetic training understands the structures involved at a level most aestheticians and med spa providers don't. Dr. Richardson's clinical expertise means your eye area is in hands that understand what's underneath the skin, not just what's on top of it.
-
None. Most patients return to normal activities immediately. You may notice mild redness or warmth around the eye area for a few hours — nothing that requires recovery time or affects your day.
